Visit the Sycamore Shoals Historic Area and see many sites that were vital to the formation on Tennessee. Located around the City of Johnson City, Sycamore Shoals is where the Watauga Association was formed in 1770. This was one of the first constitutional governments to be held west of the Appalachian Mountains. It is also where Daniel Boone helped negotiate a treaty that led to some Cherokee lands being sold to Kentucky and Tennessee, thus forming much of the state that Tennessee would eventually be situated on.
Head around this region of Johnson City, TN to see many of the spots where Boone, the Watauga Association and other people and entities were based out of. See the many signs that mark where the Overmountain Men and the Wilderness Road were formed. The long trail along the park shows all the spaces where history was made.
