Take in a beautiful view of the City of Knoxville from atop the Sunsphere. This vibrant steel tower and current observation deck were built for the 1982 World’s Fair. It is named for the brilliant golden look that it produces.

Notice the distinct look of the Sunsphere. The top features a sphere-shaped body with a series of gold-tinted glass windows all around. This creates a sun-like appearance that stands out in the Knoxville, Tennessee skyline. The gold dust materials are made of pure 24-karat gold while the windows are cut in several shapes. The cuts arrange them into a perfect spherical shape. Get your binoculars out to take a closer look at how the sphere tiles are designed and organized into a brilliant arrangement.

Enjoy many attractions as you reach the top of the tower. Go up nearly 250 feet up to see Knoxville, TN from up in the sky. Enjoy a drink or meal at the café near the observation deck.

Relax with a bit of time around the park space near the base of the Sunsphere. The area is a prominent meeting space that hosts numerous farmers markets, art galleries and other activities highlighting local culture around Knoxville.
