Lane College was critical to the development of the strong black culture that is found in much of the state of Tennessee. See how the school has evolved and visit some of the places around campus that were essential to the development of the state.

Visit the Classic Revival buildings from the early twentieth century as you go around the campus in Jackson, TN. The buildings were used to house many of the school’s earliest students and were also used as early classrooms before the campus expanded.

See the museum on campus that houses many of the earliest documents, photos and books from the school’s formation in the late nineteenth century. The school was originally formed as a place where newly-freed slaves could study. The historically black school was essential to helping those who had been slaves mover forward in post-Civil War Tennessee.

Visit the athletic fields around the campus. A few of these places can be reserved for your own use including for tennis matches or track activities. Some of these places can be reserved for use by the Lane College athletic team, the Dragons.
