Go south of the Cumberland River across from Hendersonville, TN to see the old plantation that was owned by President Andrew Jackson. The Hermitage is a Greek Revival building that Jackson lived at before and after his presidency at varying times. It is here where he had a large cotton field that also employed dozens of slaves.
Go inside the house to see various appealing rooms that were painted with high-gloss materials to allow more light to reflect inside the home. Notice the massive library and office space on the first floor.
Move up to the second floor of the building to see the bedrooms that were used by both family members and various guests. Martin Van Buren and James Polk were among the many people who stayed here.
Visit the tomb of Andrew Jackson and is wife at the mansion outside Hendersonville, Tennessee. Look around the old formal garden space where a few spots are still intact. Walk over to the old on-site wooden cabin that was home to a slave who managed part of the property following the emancipation. The features around the Heritage outside the City of Hendersonville are very distinct and important to the life of Andrew Jackson.
