Learn about the importance of the Battle of Franklin at the Carter House in Franklin, Tennessee. This 1830 house is where the Carter family hid in during the important 1864 Civil War battle.
Walk into the old brick house and see many artifacts and pieces of furniture from its construction. See the bedroom where one member of the family died in following his injuries in that battle. Notice how a few bullet holes can be found inside some of the walls. Also, the basement where much of the family hid in is fully intact and includes numerous spacious spots. This space in the City of Franklin has been heavily restored over the years to preserve its history.
Go around the extensive site where the Carter House is located at and see many other buildings in the region. The Franklin, TN site includes an old post station and cotton gin. Most of the buildings are still intact.
Watch a reenactment of the Battle of Franklin. Various historic events highlighting what took place in the area are held during the spring and summer seasons. Watch as people wear recreations of old Union and Confederate uniforms and use weapons similar to what was featured at the time.
