Step back into Civil War history as you visit the Carnton plantation house. This property in the City of Franklin is a space that played a key role in the Battle of Franklin during the Civil War.

Carnton was used as a field hospital for those who were injured or were dying following the Battle of Franklin. See the grounds where many of them were treated at. Some of the old medical instruments used at the time are on display around the house. Learn the stories of soldiers who were in the area and see how they were treated as well as how the bodies of the dead were handled.

Visit the cemetery on the plantation grounds. Many of the graves belong to people who died during the Civil War. These include the graves of Confederate soldiers who in accordance with tradition were buried as close as possible to the places they fell.
